Beginner Crochet Course FAQ
Welcome! Whether you’re brand new to crochet or picking it up again after a break, these FAQs are here to help you feel supported, confident, and excited about learning.
GENERAL COURSE QUESTIONS
Q: Who is this course for?
A: This course is designed for absolute beginners—no prior experience needed! If you’ve never held a crochet hook before (or only tried once and got confused), you’re in the right place.
Q: How long does it take to complete the course?
A: You can go at your own pace! Some learners finish in a week, others take it slow over a month or more. You’ll feel progress after each lesson—even just 10–15 minutes a day adds up fast.
Q: What supplies do I need to get started?
A: You’ll need:
- A size 5 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- Worsted weight yarn (medium #4) in a light color
- Scissors and a yarn needle
That’s it! All lessons use these same materials.
Q: I’m left-handed. Will this course still work for me?
A: Yes! Every video includes left-handed instructions or mirrored demonstrations to make learning easier no matter which hand you use.
Q: What if I get stuck?
A: Don’t worry—everyone gets stuck sometimes! You can rewatch videos, download written guides, or reach out with questions. You’re never behind, and you’re not doing it wrong. You’re learning 💛
CROCHET TECHNIQUE QUESTIONS
Q: Why do my stitches look uneven?
A: That’s completely normal at the beginning. As your hands relax and your tension evens out, your stitches will become more consistent. Just keep practicing—you’re doing great!
Q: How do I fix a mistake without starting over?
A: You can “frog” (undo) stitches by gently pulling the yarn back. Then, reinsert your hook and keep going. Mistakes are part of the process—not a setback, but a step forward.
Q: My edges are wobbly. What should I do?
A: This usually happens from missing the first or last stitch of a row. Try adding a stitch marker to both ends of your row to help guide you. It gets easier with practice!
Q: When should I move on to the next lesson?
A: When you feel comfortable with the main skill or stitch, not perfect, just confident enough to try. Every lesson builds on the last, and there’s no rush.
PROJECT + PATTERN QUESTIONS
Q: Will I make a finished project in this course?
A: Yes! By the end, you’ll complete your first full pattern: a stylish, beginner-friendly crochet market bag made using the stitches you’ve learned.
Q: What if I want to make something else?
A: That’s wonderful! Once you’ve finished this course, you’ll be ready for beginner patterns like dishcloths, scarves, and even granny square blankets. The sky’s the limit!
Q: Can I share what I’ve made?
A: Please do! I’d love to see your work. Tag @loopedandknotted on Instagram or use the hashtag #loopedandknottedmakes so we can cheer you on!
ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER
Q: I feel overwhelmed. Is that normal?
A: Yes – trying something new takes courage, and it’s okay to feel a little unsure. You are learning, step by step, stitch by stitch. Be kind to yourself and trust the process. You’re doing something amazing.
