Extended Crochet Stitches

Extended crochet stitches are worked the same as the beginner basic stitches, with just one extra step that makes them a little taller.

The abbreviations for extended stitches are the same as the basic stitch abbreviation with an e in front of it.

Abbreviations

Extended Single Crochet (esc)

Row 1

Begin with a length of chains.

Step 1: Insert the hook in the third chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull a loop through.

Step 2: Yarn over and pull through the first loop on the hook.

Step 3: Yarn over and pull through both remaining loops on the hook.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 in each chain to the end of the row.

Row 2

Step 1: Chain 2 (does not count as first stitch) turn your work, one extended single crochet in every stitch to the end of the row.

Repeat step 1 for each additional row.

The Extended Single Crochet Baby Blanket is a great project to practice the esc stitch.
