Cluster Stitch (cl)
A cluster stitch is a repeat of two rows – a foundation row and a cluster stitch row. The cluster stitch makes beautiful blankets and scarfs.
Start with a chain of any even number.
Foundation Row:
Row 1: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook, sc in the next ch, *ch1, skip the next ch, sc in the next chain, repeat from * until you have only two chains left, ch1 and sc in last two chains.
Cluster Row:
Row 2: Ch4, turn, yarn over and insert hook into first ch1 space, *yarn over again and draw loop through, yarn over and pull through only two loops on hook, repeat from * 3 times in same ch1 space.
Now, there will be 5 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull yarn through all five loops. The first cluster stitch is completed!
To Complete the cluster row – ch1 and work a cluster in the next ch1 space. Repeat working clusters in every ch1 space with a ch1 between each cluster. When you get to the end ch1 and dc in the last sc of the previous row.
Row 3: ch1, turn, sc in the first st, sc in ch1 space, *ch1, sc in between the clusters, repeat from * to the end, sc in last ch1 space, sc in the third chain of the chain from the previous row.
Then, keep alternating row 2 and 3, until your project is the length you want it.
Puff Stitch (ps)
The puff stitch is created by yarning over and pulling loops through the same stitch several times, to make the puff. The puff stitch naturally lays a bit at an angle.
Start with a chain of any even number.
Row 1: Sc in the second chain from hook and each chain across to end.
Row 2: ch1, turn, sc in the first stitch, *yo and insert hook into next stitch, pull loop through stitch, repeat from * 4 times in the same stitch.
There will be 11 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through all 11 loops, sc in next st.
Finish row to by alternating the puff stitch and sc across to end of the row.
Row 3: ch1, turn, sc in each stitch across to end.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have reached the length you want your project to be.
Bobble Stitch (bo)
The bobble stitch is similar to a cluster stitch on how it is worked, alternating two rows. It is always worked on the wrong side of the project so that it sticks out on the right side. How you finish the bobble stitch is what makes it stand out further that a cluster stitch.
To start, make a chain of any even number.
Foundation:
Row 1: sc in the second chain from hook and in each ch across to end.
Bobble Row:
Row 2: Ch1,turn, sc in the first st.*yo and draw through a loop, yo and pull through only two loops on the hook, repeat from * 4 times.
Now, there six loops are on the hook, yo and pull through all 6 loops, sc in the next stitch.
Repeat alternating the bobble stitch and single crochet to the end of the row, with a sc in the last stitch.
Row 3: ch1, turn, sc in each st across. [one on top of the bobble and the one in between]
Then, alternate rows 2 and 3 until your project is the length required.
Popcorn Stitch (pc)
The popcorn stitch has the most texture of all of these stitches. It is also worked alternating two rows and worked on the wrong side of the project.
Start with a chain of any even number.
Row 1: Single Crochet in the second chain from hook and each chain across to end
Row 2: Ch1, turn, sc in first st, 5dc in next st, pull up on the loop and remove the hook, insert hook into first double crochet and back into the loop. Pull the loop through dc to bring them all together. Popcorn stitch is done! Then, ch1, sc in next stitch. Repeat working popcorn, ch1, sc – to the end of the row.
Row 3: ch1, turn, sc in each stitch across to end.
Continue alternating rows 2 and 3 until you have reached the desired length.
