Crochet After Care

Crochet after care, in this lesson we’ll go over two things – Blocking and Laundry.

Blocking Crochet Projects

First, let me be completely honest with you, I vary rarely block my crochet pieces, maybe out of laziness! I will block doilies and pieces made of thread because they tend to curl.

That being said, I want to give you all the information!

Crochet blocking is the process of setting your pieces with some form of water. You can spray block, wet block, or steam block. Blocking works better on natural fibers- like cotton. Synthetic fibers can be a little tricky.

Blocking does have benefits:

  • Blocking evens out your stitches.
  • Blocking can correct a piece that is curling and evens out the edges.
  • Blocking improves the drape of your fabric.

First, Pin the corners of the crochet piece, using the grid lines.

Next, Pin along each side to make them straight.

Then, Spray the piece with warm water.

Let it dry completely before you remove the pins.

Laundry

You will wash your crochet projects by following the instructions given on the yarn label you used to make the piece with. Most of the time these are printed using symbols. What if you don’t know what the symbols mean? I got you!
