Crochet Beginner Stitches

The double crochet is about twice as tall as a single crochet and is one of the most common crochet stitches.

Row 1

Begin with a length of chains.

Step 1: Yarn over and insert the hook in the fourth chain from the hook.

Step 2: Pull a loop through, yarn over again, pull through the first to loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the two loops on the hook.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 in each chain to the end.

Row 2

Step 1: Chain 3 (counts as the first stitch) turn your work, one double crochet in every stitch. The last double crochet is worked in the top of the turning chain from the previous row.

Repeat step 1 for each additional row.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
