1: Start with foundation chain. Yarn over and insert your hook in the 3rd chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull yarn through the chain. You’ll have 3 loops on your hook.
2: Yarn over and insert hook into the 4th chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull yarn through the chain. You’ll have 5 loops on the hook now.
3: Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on the hook.
How to crochet the paired half double crochet stitch
1: hdc2tog over the third and fourth chains from the hook.
2: *hdc2tog by inserting the hook in the same chain as the last stitch, then into the next chain. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
3: Row Two – Chain 2, turn your work. hdc2tog over the first and second hdc2tog from the previous row. Continue working hdc2tog staring in the same space as the last stitch and into the next. Repeat to end of the row. The last hdc2tog stitch will be worked starting in the last stitch and finished in the turning chain from the previous row.
4: Repeat step 3 for each additional new row.
