Treble/Triple Crochet
Abbreviation: tr
Symbol:
The triple/treble crochet stitch makes a very loose fabric because of the larger openings in between each stitch.
Row 1
Begin with a length of chains.
Step 1: Yarn over twice and insert the hook into the fifth chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull a loop through
Step 2: You’ll now have four loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops.
Step 3: Three loops remain on the hook, yarn over and pull yarn through the first two loops.
Step 4: Two loops remain on the hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook.
Step 5: Repeat steps 1 through 4 in each chain to the end of the row.
Row 2
Step 1: Chain 4 (counts as first stitch) turn your work, one triple in each stitch to the end of the row. The last stitch will be worked in the turning chain of the previous row.
Repeat step 1 for each additional row.
Parts of a Treble Crochet
Note: There are several taller versions of the treble crochet – double trebles, triple trebles, and quadruple trebles. They are all worked in a similar way, starting by wrapping the yarn over three, four, or five times. Then working through two stitches at a time until the stitch is complete.
