How to Crochet the Crunch Stitch

Start by making a chain of multiples of two, plus one.
I’m starting with a chain of 19 for this swatch.

Row 1

Slip stitch into the third chain from the hook. (This counts as the first half double.)

One half double in the next chain.

Slip stitch in the next chain.

Repeat alternating half double and slip stitches to the end of the chain. The last stitch will be a slip stitch.

Row 2

Chain two (counts as a half double.), skip the first stitch.

Slip stitch in the next half double from the previous row.

Half double crochet into the slip stitch from the previous row.

Repeat alternating slip stitches and half doubles to the end.

The last stitch will be a slip stitch worked into the top of the turning chain.

Additional Rows

For each additional row, repeat row two until your swatch reaches the length you desire.
