Head Circumference Measurements

These are average head circumference sizes. It is always best to get the actual measurements of the person you are making this headband for.

  • Preemie: 12″- 13″
  • New Born: 13″- 14″
  • 3 to 6 Months: 14″ – 15″
  • 6 to 12 Months: 15.5″ – 16.5″
  • 12 to 24 Months: 16″ – 18″
  • Child – 3 to 10 years: 19″ – 21″
  • Teen/Sm Adult: 21″
  • Adult: 22″
  • Lg Adult: 23″

I’m making this headband for myself. My head measures 22″ so I worked rows until the head band was about 19″ long. Once you have reached the required length, fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.

Finishing the Headband

Fold the headband in half.

Bring the two ends together, sandwiching them as shown in the picture below.

Make sure to adjust all 4 layers so that they are even with each other.

With a yarn needle, sew all four layers together with a whip stitch. Make sure you are inserting the needle through each layer.

When you get to the end, fasten off and weave in ends. Then, turn the headband right side out.
